Located at the foot of Montmartre, in hip Pigalle, famous for its neon-lit red light district and eclectic nightlife, from the 19th-century cabaret Moulin Rouge to glam cocktail bars. South of Boulevard de Clichy, contemporary bistros give way to grand 19th-century neoclassical buildings that earned the area the nickname of Nouvelle Athènes (New Athens). Formerly l’Hôtel Charleston back in 1929, Hotel Rochechouart honors its origins—the finest original details were restored, from the 1930s blue mosaic floor in the soaring brasserie to the aged mirrors, marble staircase, and glass elevator.

All 106 rooms have decorative details, from the burl wood headboards, curved velvet armchairs or sofas, retro tiled bathrooms and alabaster suspension lamps, thoughtfully whisk guests to another time. The clean lines, glass bedsides, and chrome light fixtures add a contemporary edge only found in modern day interiors. Guests facing north have the great pleasure of the beautiful Sacré Coeur for their view, with some being able to enjoy from their balcony also.  We suggest a suite if possible, as other rooms are a quite traditional compact Parisian style. Although, we will say that staying in this area will have you spending a very minimal amount of time in your room. It’s certainly a high energy area, with vibrant nightlife, so if you’re a light sleeper, the hotel has thoughtfully provided earplugs for any street noise.

The magnificent rooftop bar has breathtaking views across Paris, including the Eiffel Tower and the much closer Sacré Coeur. A destination among Parisians, the old-world brasserie on the ground-floor has plush banquettes and soaring ceilings and serves up comforting Parisian classics. The signature crêpe cake for dessert is a family recipe, and is one not to be missed. There’s a lounge bar adjacent to the restaurant, where guests can enjoy cocktails before and after dinner. Then after dinner and/or more drinks, many-a-guest will find themselves heading one floor underground to the Mikado, a 1920s-era nightclub that the owners revived as a speakeasy—Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights only.
