TWA Hotel is as iconic as it sounds—JFK’s only on-airport hotel and a trip back to the glamorous days of air travel. With guest rooms providing sweeping views of planes taking off and landing at operational international terminals, you might feel as though you’re on the set of Catch Me If You Can.
Formerly TWA’s flight terminal from the 60s, the original space could no longer accommodate larger, more modern planes and so it was abandoned in 2001. The building, designed by the late Eero Saarinen now includes 512 retro-fitted, mid-century rooms, a restaurant by Michelin-starred chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, a cafe and food hall, a rooftop infinity pool, and a 1958 Lockheed Constellation airplane which serves as an uber cool cocktail lounge. In addition, there’s also an 10,000 sq ft fitness center (the world’s largest hotel gym), a museum with exhibits on TWA, the Jet Age, and midcentury design, and a Twister Room.
In case you were wondering, the rooms are ultra-quiet. Walls are a mighty 4.5 inches thick and windows are the second-thickest in the world.
